Can’t wait to get back on the road soon. You know, 2013 is right around the corner
Can’t wait to get back on the road soon. You know, 2013 is right around the corner
Being in St. Louis on the eve of my 28th Birthday this year was a blast. The fact that it was also the 1,000th Episode of WWE’s “RAW” made it even better. We had a hotel (Millennium Hotel, St. Louis) which was less than one mile from where the event was taking place, the Scottrade Center. Even though it was only a mile, it was a challenge as it was AMAZINGLY hot in St. Louis that day. We’re probably talking over 100 degrees. Myself and my girlfriend both got showers before beginning the journey, and by the time we arrived at the arena we were covered in sweat. To make things worse, we had to stand outside in the blistering sun for another 20-30 minutes until we were let into the building.
Nonetheless, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Amazing event, great city, great memories. We originally planned on having a few drinks at the arena, but the $10 price tag for a beer, and $9.25, or whatever it was, price tag for a mixed drink made it so we decided to only have one a piece. It’s a common thing these days, but do arenas/venues really have to charge THAT much? Don’t they make enough off of parking, ticket sales, programs, etc?? What can you do though, still loved St. Louis!!!
Here I am, sitting in my room at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Delaware. Thinking about the past 10 days that have been. We’ve been all over. Chicago, Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri, Cincinnati, Ohio, Nashville, Tennessee, through Kentucky, ALL over the place. We’ve seen many sights, met tons of people, had ups and downs, and above all else, had fun. We have so many memories that will stick with us forever.
Yesterday, July 29th, may have ended up being one of the best days of our journey. We were originally supposed to be spending it, which was also my girlfriend’s 23rd Birthday, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. One thing about the road is this… plans change. Rehoboth was packed this weekend, and we had a problem finding a hotel last minute. We ended up finding one in Ocean City, which isn’t too far away. It’s funny, sometimes last minute changes end up becoming an experience which seems like it was meant to happen all along. We hit a few places for Happy Hour, the second being a place called the Bad Ass Cafe, which is right on the Boardwalk. Me and my girlfriend each had 4 or 5 drinks there, and a HUGE plate of nachos, and it only came to around $18. GREAT SERVICE, GREAT food, AMAZING place!
I have tons of stories and photographs which I took on this trip, so you can expect a lot of blogs well after we get back home late tomorrow night. I am a bit tired from the road, but already looking forward to the next leg of the OUP Photography Tour. For a while I’ll just enjoy the memories of this journey, but you can expect more travels for sure… THANK YOU SO MUCH for checking out this Blog, I appreciate it! I’ll leave you guys with some of my favorite photographs of the past day in Maryland & Delaware. I’ll be checking back with more content later in the week and beyond!
Today I ended up getting to pick Cherokee Street in St. Louis, MO, which has TONS of killer antique shops all located next to each other. Originally got the tip from an article that Mike Wolfe (the American Picker himself) was a part of. Scored some killer stuff, and also ran across some NFS (not for sale) stuff that I wish I had a chance at picking/buying… Ahh well…. lots more time left this week
Another great day on the road, tons of adventures and fun. It all started off early this morning at a random rest stop in the middle of Illinois. I’m really starting to love going to these different rest stops, and enjoying “roughing it” a little bit. After getting some coffees and bagels at a Starbucks and getting some gas, we decided to hit a few co-ops and shop around for some different antiques, and any good junk I could find. Got some killer stuff which I’ll be showing in an episode of “Picking” I plan while filming on the road… should be out in a day or two.
After a great day of picking it was off to St. Louis, which I still am right now writing this blog. We are staying in the Millennium Hotel here in this beautiful city. We attended WWE’s “RAW 1,000″ event at the Scottrade Center, and let me tell you, AMAZING. We attended two big RAW’s earlier this year, in Philadelphia and Cleveland, and this one beat all others in my mind, hands down.
I now sit here enjoying my beautiful hotel room (some slow service and a few other annoyances here, but we’ll keep that on the hush for now…) and the fact that it is officially now as of writing this my 28th Birthday… where does the time go? Anyway, tomorrow it is off to pick Missouri some more, possibly Tennessee or Kentucky, maybe Arkansas, who knows??!? I absolutely love life on the road. Sometimes it is stressful, sometimes it is uncertain, but it is always fun and something new. That keeps me happy. That is what I need more of in my life.
Here are some photographs from the day, enjoy!

I’m just sitting in the passenger seat as my girlfriend is driving us from Illinois towards St. Louis, Missouri. Sorry it took so long to get my first update posted, but so far this tour has been fun, yet EXTREMELY tiring. In the past 24 hours I’ve only got about 1-2 hours of sleep. Hoping that will change this evening in a few hours when we get to a rest stop. We spent last night at a rest stop as well, but had to be up extremely early this morning, and for some reason I just couldn’t really fall asleep.
Last night we slept at a rest stop near Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and tonight we’re shooting for somewhere in Missouri, but on the road, you just never know. Tomorrow we’ll be attending WWE’s Raw 1,000th Episode in St. Louis, and we have an awesome hotel, so I am expecting to get some awesome content all day tomorrow in St. Louis.
Today we hit Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. I am not sure if I am just spoiled with HersheyPark or what, and don’t get me wrong I had a blast, but it just wasn’t the same. I found the employees not to be very nice or helpful, the park to be overall in not-so-great shape, and the list goes on… But we did have a blast! (for the most part….)
I’m going to leave you with some of my favorite photographs from today and yesterday…. I’ll check back in as soon as possible
Don’t forget that I’ve been streaming LIVE from the road over at http://www.ounitproductions.com … I just may pop on LIVE tonight briefly after posting this blog
Before letting you go, I just want to briefly mention this X-Flight Rollercoaster at Six Flags Great America, as you see pictured above. I enjoyed it, would love to ride it again someday, but it wasn’t able to “live up to the hype” for me, and make my top few Rollercoasters. After riding this today, my “Top Five” list, which I have rode, would have to be as follows:
1) SkyRush – HersheyPark
2) Intimidator 305 – King’s Dominion
3) Possessed – Dorney Park
4) X-Flight – Six Flags Great America
5) Fahrenheit – HersheyPark
Just my opinions at the time of writing this, hopefully one day soon I’ll have an updated list
Looking forward to RAW 1,000 tomorrow night, picking the backroads of Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee Tuesday and Wednesday, the Under the Influence Tour with Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller on Thursday, picking Virginia, etc.. on Friday, and Rehoboth Beach and Dover, Delaware next weekend….. EXCITING TIMES AHEAD! STAY TUNED to the 2012 Summer OUP Photography Tour!!!
